Upskilled Television Commercial

Sketchbook recently wrapped up production on a TVC for national training organisation Upskilled. The TVC was produced and directed by Adam Rainford from Raining Films. It was shot at the TVSN studios in Frenchs Forest with a crew fresh off a recent feature shoot. Shot against green screen, the presenter, Emily Stewart stood and delivered strongly as she referenced imaginary imagery - which would of course be added in post. Sketchbook then designed, animated and composited to complete the visual component, it was then off to sound design for a handful of appropriate bips and beeps.

C3 LOVE SYDNEY / PRESENCE EUROPE

Sketchbook were called upon to create an opening video for C3 Church's Love Sydney event in September. Along with the opening video, we also created screen visuals for 5 C3 songs to be played at the over 250 churches around the world.

The time schedule was very tight, just under 3 weeks from beginning to end to produce almost 30 minutes of 30x9 animation, but we got there in the end.

We also produced a modified opener for the Presence Europe Conference in Amsterdam.

Here are some screenshots of the work;

Shinobi - Trouble Music Video

We directed/shot this music video for the band Shinobi (http://www.myspace.com/shinobioz) at an amazing location in Alexandria. It's an abandoned factory that gives many talented graffiti artists a place to express themselves, it feels very dead, but at the same time very alive.

We had one day to shoot the whole thing and only about 3-4 hours to shoot the band shots, but we got through about 11, two camera takes, as well as the necessary shots we needed of the band around the location. We shot on Canon XHA1's (HDV) and used pretty much only natural light. We left happy, but wet.

The edit took about a week and a half to complete and then once it was locked, it was onlined & graded in Adobe After Effects. We wanted to make it really gritty, uncomfortable, kinetic and somehow "alcoholic" with the edit and grade, so hopefully you feel something like that when you watch it.

Overall it was a real fun project to be involved with and the guys & girls involved with the band were super easy to work with. Special thanks to Pepper Ingram who shot some BTS snaps - check out her site, she's way good.

Anyway, go get some hard, agro aussie rock in'tya!

Sketchbook Media Site Launch!

Thanks for dropping by! We're stoked to be launching our new site, it's certainly been a while coming - I think our placeholder site was starting to burn out pixels on monitors!

As the landing page suggests we do motion design, graphic design and video production. Over the last little while we have created music videos, promos, openers, brochures, logos and a whole lot more. You can expect to see this blog updated reasonably regularly, if for no other reason then to entertain ourselves at morning tea! (we don't buy the paper) So feel free to read along with us from time to time to see what adventures we've been up to.

Our new virtual home coincides with our move into our new physical home, we are now located in Kirrawee, NSW (Southern Sydney for those outa towners). We share a studio with the very talented Couvaras Architects. Our new premises is open and roomy with plenty of light, space and fresh air - three important ingredients that our initial home were a bit short on! BTW, a big thank you to all the crew at Shirelive who accommodated us for the last couple of years, we are very grateful - we will miss the T2 samples :)

p.s. Keep an eye out for our new reel, it will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

p.s.s. Photo's courtesy of Fezz's iphone, using the stupidly fun app, shakeitphoto.
